Rare crystals are minerals that are any of the following; It could be that the stone is newly discovered and correctly identified as a new mineral or combination of minerals, The stone is only found in one or two locations in the world, There are controls on how much of the stone goes on the market each year, The stone requires a specific set of circumstances for it to be created, The mines are all payed out and no more natural stones are being found or the mining process is time consuming and expensive.
